Published 30 years after the Civil War, this biography of one of the era's greatest generals includes a summary of the war and its causes. There is plenty of action for thrill seekers and many examples of leadership's principles for students. The simple vocabulary and short sentences provide an ideal introduction to the subject for younger readers, and the book's quality qualifies it as literature worthy of an expert's attention. Lloyd James has a soft voice, and he maintains a slow pace, evidenced by relaxed pauses between sentences.
